#Playlist: January

We’ve already got one month down for 2014! Whoa. Here’s what we’ve been listening to.

April (@aprilsalud):
Not going to lie, I’ve been obsessed with “Story of My Life” by One Direction. It was definitely on repeat on for the first couple weeks of 2014. Not a bad way to start if you ask me. A lot of new discoveries with the new year is the rest of my “theme” for my picks on this playlist. BBC Sound of 2014 winner, Sam Smith’s insane voice grabbed my attention. Angel Haze’s flow and cadence jolted me. A Great Big World’s gigantic heart gave me the feels. Kyla La Grange empowered the crap out of me. But of course, I have my good ol’ reliables always there for me (Bastille, Haim, Jake Bugg…you know the drill). It’s going to be a great year.

Heather (@NerdHeather):
To me, January is all about new beginnings. So for this month’s playlist, I chose songs that reminded me of starting over (“Bella”); reminded me to keep moving (“Of The Night”, “Best Day of My Life”, “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.”, ); reminded me of how I would like things to be this year (“Oxygen”, “Bravado”) and songs that just felt like the dreariness and loneliness of winter to me (“The Sound of Silence”, “Somewhere Only You Know, “Skinny Love”, “Jane S. Piddy”). As we move past the first month of the year, these songs are getting me out of bed and stepping onto the cold linoleum every morning!

I saw Sam Smith duet with Taylor Swift at the weekend and I just don’t get the fuss about him…
